Arts Event - The Bush

The story of thirteen “genteel housewives” sparking a global conservation movement demonstrates that activism is possible for everyone.

The Bush, and writer/performer Alice Mary Cooper, have consistently received encouraging responses from audiences, critics and industry alike. It is a show that speaks to “would-be” and

“unlikely” activists—people who might not see themselves in social movements. 

Since touring the show outdoors in 2022, performing as part of Made in Scotland, and returning at the Fringe both indoors and outdoors in 2025, Alice knows her audience well. The show

appeals particularly- but not limited- to:

● Baby Boomers and those who remember the 1970s, who connect with its design elements, humour, and references to political and social events.

● Grandparents, parents, and young adults, as themulti-layered storytelling resonates across generations, making it popular with family groups.

● History enthusiasts, drawn to its exploration of environmental, feminist, trade union, and Australian history.

● Australia–British connections, with many Brits having ties to Australia through family, travel, or work, alongside a wider cultural curiosity shaped by Australian TV and perceptions of its lifestyle.

Audiences have described the show as: “fun,” “highly entertaining,” “very informative but not dry,” “super interesting,” “performed brilliantly,” “funny,” and “hopeful at a time when little hope exists, especially around the climate crisis.

” Some compared it to “a kick-ass Erin Brockovich story.

” Others highlighted its nostalgia—“it took me back to the 70s/my childhood/Australia”—and its relevance—

“such a great story of community action and women– we need that!” Many said they had no prior knowledge of the events, including Australians who grew up in Sydney.
