Liv Dawn 6th March
with support from Robin Pigott
Liv Dawn is a folk-pop singer-songwriter from Loch Lomond who crafts compelling
tales of love, hope and ambition. Drawing inspiration from the stunning landscapes
of her homeland, Liv creates songs that bring a sense of peace and connection to
nature. Her lyrics, much like storytelling, captures the everyday experiences and
emotions of life and relationships.
We hope you’ll like her and we think combined with Robin opening the show, it will be an evening of rich resonance.
With a warm up from our very own Robin Pigott – Robin crafts music that feels both intimate and quietly powerful. Rooted in acoustic folk with gentle indie-pop textures, his songs are driven by warm guitar work and expressive, unforced vocals that draw the listener in from the first line.
There’s a sincerity at the heart of his songwriting. Robin favours honest storytelling over elaborate production, allowing melody and lyric to carry the emotional weight. His music reflects on love, memory, and personal growth with a thoughtful restraint that avoids sentimentality while remaining deeply affecting.
Liv Dawn is a BBC Radio Scotland Singer-Songwriter Award finalist and has performed at
iconic Scottish venues including the Barrowland Ballroom and King Tut’s Wah Wah
Hut. Showcasing her music at festivals such as Celtic Connections, Edinburgh
Fringe, Skye Live, Belladrum and Eden Festival, Liv has also supported artists
including Del Amitri, Tom Walker, Tide Lines, and Skerryvore.
Following her debut EP ‘Beautiful Daydream’ (released 2023), which explored
themes of growing up, relationships, and chasing dreams, Liv released her new
six-track EP ‘Hopeful Wandering’ on 17th October 2025. With full band production,
the EP continues to explore navigating life, love and adventure, blending folk, pop,
and soft rock textures with her core singer-songwriter sound. Liv’s music has
received media coverage from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing
Radio, Northern Exposure Magazine, CLOUT, Lefuturewave, Daily Record, HMV,
The Scotsman, SNACK Mag, Tenement TV, and The Skinny.

March 23rd Film Screening – Fires and Fascism
FIRES AND FASCISM is a new 57-min documentary that shows the wildfires in Europe are more than just climate change and mismanagement. It links the increasing wildfires of Europe with fascism, big business, organised crime, and the rise of the far right. It showcases how communities are engaging in direct action, protest, rewilding, and suppressing the rise of uncontrollable fires and the far right through direct actions.
Featured are the experiences and actions of 25 people from Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, including scientists, teachers, artists, gardeners, engineers, winemakers, NGOs, and authors. The film is crowdfunded, independent, and non-profit.
The director of the film, Dr Pete Knapp will be joining us for a Q&A after the film! Dr Knapp has a background in air quality and shifted careers from academia to storytelling. The reason for making the film is to reduce modern day fascism and to help unify people in times of growing division. It aims to start the conversation on what we need to do about the rise of fascism today.
Tickets will be available on the door and from http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/craignish-village-hall

April 22nd Theatre
The Bush written and performed by Alice Mary Cooper
The Bush, and writer/performer Alice Mary Cooper, have consistently received encouraging
responses from audiences, critics and industry alike. It is a show that speaks to “would-be” and
“unlikely” activists—people who might not see themselves in social movements. The story of
thirteen “genteel housewives” sparking a global conservation movement demonstrates that
activism is possible for everyone.
Since touring the show outdoors in 2022, performing as part of Made in Scotland, and returning
at the Fringe both indoors and outdoors in 2025, Alice knows her audience well. The show
appeals particularly- but not limited- to:
● Baby Boomers and those who remember the 1970s, who connect with its design
elements, humour, and references to political and social events.
● Grandparents, parents, and young adults, as themulti-layered storytelling resonates across generations, making it
popular with family groups.
● History enthusiasts, drawn to its exploration of environmental, feminist, trade union, and Australian history.
● Australia–British connections, with many Brits having ties to Australia through family, travel, or work,
alongside a wider cultural curiosity shaped by Australian TV and perceptions of its lifestyle.
Audience Feedback
Audiences have described the show as: “fun,” “highly entertaining,” “very informative but not dry,” “super interesting,” “performed brilliantly,” “funny,” and “hopeful at a time when little hope exists, especially around the climate crisis.
” Some compared it to “a kick-ass Erin Brockovich story.
” Others highlighted its nostalgia—“it took me back to the 70s/my childhood/Australia”—and its relevance—
“such a great story of community action and women– we need that!” Many said they had no prior knowledge of the events, including Australians who grew up in Sydney.

Nominated for Live act of the Year 2023/24 at the MG Na Trad Awards & The Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
An Dannsa Dub (The Dub Dance in Gaelic) is the brainchild of dub vocalist & producer Tom Spirals and Scottish traditional musician Euan McLaughlin formed in 2020. The project fuses the mystical energy and instruments of traditional Scottish music and Gaelic song with the heavy, meditative, driving basslines of digital dub music.
Music is one big conversation. And few projects live at the heart of it like An Dannsa Dub.
Born from a love of traditional Scottish folk, dub reggae and dance music, together they summon the joyous, communal energy of a cèilidh and a sound system session.
Their name comes from the Gaelic for “The Dub Dance”. Their sound celebrates the ancient Gaelic and West African rhythms that influenced reggae, which in turn, via sound system culture and dub’s pioneering remixes, produced modern dance music. Their live shows and recordings are a seamless, pulsating fusion of all this and more.
Tickets £20 & £15 from http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/craignish-village-hall and available from Ardfern Village Store.

Mull Theatre and An Tobar – Night Waking 24th October 7.30pm
Anna Bennett is losing the plot. She is supposed to be writing a book. Instead, she’s not sleeping, barely thinking, and definitely not winning any ‘Mother of the Year’ awards. Her island retreat—remote, wild, windswept—should be peaceful, but between the kids, the endless mess, and the unsettling discovery in the garden, there’s no peace to be found.
Anna is not just fraying at the edges—she’s unravelling. And the past is creeping in through the cracks.
As she grapples with her own maternal ambivalence, a buried history begins to rise. Set against the eerie backdrop of a Scottish island, Night Waking is a dark, vicious, and unexpectedly funny one-woman play about exhaustion, colonialism, and the things we wish we could unearth—or forget.
With a script that flickers between biting humour and unbearable tension, this adaptation of Sarah Moss’snovel by Shireen Mula is an electric, unmissable solo performance.

There is spirit and fire in the music of The Zawose Queens. There’s the vibrations of the ancestors, coming through on traditional instruments — soaring chizeze fiddle, buzzing illimba thumb piano, ngoma drums that chatter and thunder — and voices that go deep, high and out there. There’s the connection to nature, to ceremony and ritual, in their dance-inspired fusion.
There are lyrics that tell, in their native kigogo, of the passion for music, the wonders of life. Of pride in environment, in tradition. In their East African roots.
Pendo and Leah Zawose showcase the fluid polyrhythms and rapturous polyphonic singing of the Gogo (aka Wagogo) people of the arid, hilly Dodoma region of central Tanzania.
The most famous exponent of this musical tradition is the late, great Dr Hukwe Zawose (Pendo’s father and Leah’s grandfather).
Maisha, the debut album by The Zawose Queens, marks the first time that women from this famous musical family take their place as lead vocalists and performers. Emboldened by workshops in songwriting and music production with visiting UK-based producers Oli Barton-Wood (Jordan Rakei, Obongjayar, Nilufer Yanya) and Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa), The Zawose Queens began writing their first ever songs. The resulting collection of songs range from the stripped back and traditional-sounding to those treated with subtle electronic elements, with beats and drops and found sounds and switch-ups.

OCEAN WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean.
The celebrated broadcaster and filmmaker reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing.
Stunning, immersive cinematography showcases the wonder of life under the seas and exposes the realities and challenges facing our ocean as never-before-seen, from destructive fishing techniques to mass coral reef bleaching. Yet the story is one of optimism, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.
Following the film, exclusively in cinemas, A DEEPER DIVE WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH takes audiences behind the scenes with additional footage and interviews on the making of OCEAN.

CVH – Arts Programme
Craignish Village Hall has a long-standing history of offering high quality, carefully curated multi-genre arts programming across each year. Our Arts Manager (Rachel Rogers) and the General Hall Manager (Sarah Whittle) work together with volunteer committee members to deliver this diverse programming, which generates its own funding streams, and does not draw upon day-to-day hall revenue. Since 2021, the programme has been the grateful beneficiary of funding support from Creative Scotland, The Craignish Trust, The Touring Network, Argyll & Bute Council, Cinema for All, Film Hub Scotland as well as generous private supporting donors.
We are very privileged to have such high-quality arts performances taking place in our rural, fragile remote location, where many would otherwise have limited opportunities to experience the arts without significant travel. We are delighted that, contrary to the national trend, our audience numbers continue to grow. We regularly gather and analyse valuable audience and community feedback, and welcome all your suggestions and ideas for consideration, at all times, to help us with future planning.
We couldn’t run our events without the generous time offered by our brilliant volunteers, and can always find a role for everyone, so if you’d like to be more involved, then please do let us know!
CVH Arts – 2023
This year, 2023, we have been busy with a range of events including: Bought and Sold – Scotland, Jamaica and Slavery (literature), Fergus McCreadie (jazz), Esther Swift (contemporary harp), Two in a Barrel (kid’s theatre), Bea’s sculpture exhibition plus Sunday Sessions 5 & 6 – and we still have a lot more to come! We are currently awaiting some funding application outcomes before finalising our plans which will take us through until March 2024 – please keep an eye on the main CVH website calendar, posters on noticeboards (plus the Lunga skip!) and social media pages for what’s on next!
We are using this slightly quieter scheduling period to continue to develop our focus on some of the hidden bits of running an arts programme and to improve some key areas of importance to us, including becoming members of the Green Arts Initiative, exploring further ways in which we can reduce our climate impact. Additionally, we are revisiting our inclusion policies and ensuring that our programme is as accessible and open to all as possible, and ensuring that we remain fair work for fair pay employers and commissioners. We have established an arts access fund which is open to all who may be unable to attend our events if facing financial challenges – this can be accessed by emailing the Arts Manager (in strictest confidence) who will try to ensure a solution is found. We have also been developing our social media presence and now all upcoming events can be found by searching Craignish Village Hall on both Facebook and Instagram where you can view the regularly updated events calendar.
Emerging – 2021-2022
2021/22 was a very busy brilliant year for the CVH Arts programme, which built on strong positive pre-covid foundations.
Emerging from the pandemic, we scheduled two postponed events in October and November 2021, Grandmother’s Grimm (Some Kind of Theatre, theatre) and Rules to Live By/EIDOS (Suzi Cunningham, dance).
Recognising that we were facing some C19 related audience hesitancy in returning to community gatherings, we introduced a new initiative, organised and curated by Matt Walsh, called “Sunday Sessions” to help rebuild community confidence. These proved so popular that we hosted six sessions in 2022 and this initiative continues today. Sessions are free to attend, our musicians receive fair pay, and the sessions offer a platform for new, emerging and local established musical talent to deliver a short set of songs of their choice. Additionally, they provide a great informal and friendly space to hang out and catch up in with friends. We have been delighted to be able to support some very young local musicians, and have very much appreciated the nurturing, encouraging and friendly environment offered by our audiences, and the wonderful support offered by our more experienced musicians to our younger emerging artists.
In addition to The Sunday Sessions, 2022 also saw us host a brilliant range of diverse work including The Sea and Me (songwriter/stories), Scottish Opera – Highlights Tour, Like
Animals (Superfan, theatre), The Story Wagon (Luke Winters, stories, words, poetry), Make Up (Andy Moseley, theatre), Nevis Ensemble (live music), Speak Easy Circus & Cabin Fever (live music), Billy Bragg (live music), Kakatsitsi (drumming, dance, live music), 6 Feet 3 Shoes (Slanjayvah Danza, live music, dance), Downs With Love (Cutting Edge, theatre), Rocket Post (Constellation Points, kid’s theatre), President (film, live director Q&A) and Moonage Daydream (film).
Recent history pre-2021
The CVH Arts Programme promoted and hosted many fantastic theatre and dance events before the pandemic – with highlights including visits from Sonnet Youth, Shaper/Caper, Rob Heaslip, Paines Plough, Ellie Dubois, David Hughes Dance, Plutot la Vie, Mac Brew, Company of Wolves, Mull Theatre, The Flanagan Collective, Dogstar Theatre, Clod Ensemble, Yugen Puppet Theatre, Jenna Watt and many others.
Musical highlights in the run up to the first lockdown included Iona Fyfe, Nevis Ensemble, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Hannah Rarity, Budapest Cafe Orchestra, Sophie Ramsay & Sarah Smout, Balter, Rosie Bans, Eduardo Niebla & Matthew Robinson, Dean Owens & the Whisky Hearts, Salsa Celtica, Shooglenifty, Scottish Opera Highlights, Mary Ann Kennedy, Mairi Campbell and Mike Vass, Dick Gaughan, Samson Sounds, Dougie Maclean and Cera Impala amongst others.
